Structured Lesson Plan

  • Beginner Classical Guitar Course

    Acquisition of basic knowledge and technique of the instrument

    You will:

    • be given an overview of the parts of the classical guitar.
    • learn how to string and tune your guitar using a tuning folk or a digital tuner.
    • learn how to hold the guitar properly.
    • learn proper right-hand plucking techniques such as apoyando (rest stroke) and tirando (free stroke), with clean, uniform tone and a controlled rhythmic flow through simple scale and arpeggio exercises.
    • learn proper left-hand techniques through simple scale and arpeggio exercises.
    • learn the location of notes in the first position.
    • learn basic concept of the fingerings.
    • learn performing skills through methods (studies), and pieces.
    • learn sight-reading and memorization skills.
    • learn effective ways of practising the guitar at home.
    • learn basic music theory and its application (tempi, dynamics, articulation, etc.)
  • Intermediate Classical Guitar Course

    Extending musical knowledge and performing techniques of the instrument

    You will:

    • learn right-hand plucking techniques for a better sound quality, expression, and projection.
    • learn more left-hand techniques such as slurs, glissando/arrastre, vibrato, etc.
    • learn dumping/muting techniques to obtain cleaner sounds.
    • learn the location of notes up to 12th fret.
    • learn how to play natural and artificial harmonics.
    • learn an alternative tuning (drop D).
    • learn the concept of right-hand and left-hand fingerings.
    • learn how to reduce unnecessary tensions in your body while playing the guitar.

    • refine your dumping/muting techniques and criteria based on a musical context and harmony to elevate the outcome of the performance.
    • learn the location of all the notes on the fret board.
    • learn to play multiple natural and/or artificial harmonics simultaneously (also in combination with natural notes).
    • learn alternative tunings (drop G, drop F#).
    • extend the understanding and criteria of right-hand and left-hand fingerings pursuing a balancing act between your or guitar's technical limitation and desired musical expression.
    • learn how to reduce unnecessary tensions in your body while playing the guitar.
    • improve performing skills through methods (studies) and larger works.
    • improve sight-reading and memorization skills.
    • learn effective ways of overcoming difficulties.
